How to Unlock Metal Gear Solid 5's Nuclear Disarmament Secret

Konami has confirmed how to unlock the secret nuclear disarmament ending for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Although the secret ending apparently leaked back in September (you can see the video on IGN's Metal Gear Solid V Easter Egg page), Konami has now released the instructions on how to unlock the event for real, and it's not going to be easy.

One of the original theories was true. All nuclear weapons at the FOBs of everyone in your console's region have to be dismantled. The full instructions are as follows:

You must have completed Mission 31. You must not own or be currently developing a nuclear weapon. If you have any nukes in stock, you must dismantle them. Certain conditions related to nuclear proliferation must be met on the regional server for your corresponding gaming platform (PlayStation®4, PlayStation®3, Xbox One, Xbox 360®, PC(Steam®)). All nuclear weapons on the regional server corresponding to your console or platform must have been dismantled. In other words, the amount of nukes on your platform's server must be equal to 0.

"If all four conditions are met, you will automatically trigger the secret nuclear disarmament event when you return to Mother Base or after you complete a main mission," reads the instructions. "Should new nukes be developed after conditions 3 and 4 have been fulfilled, this event can be repeated by fulfilling all four conditions again."

As of today, Xbox 360 users are closest to unlocking the ending, according to Konami, with just 35 nukes remaining. Meanwhile, Steam users have a long way to go to dismantle their 11,473.

Konami shipped 5 million copies of Metal Gear Solid V before the end of September. In IGN's review, we said that it's a "gameplay marvel, rewarding intelligence and creativity in a way few games do."
